My Handmade Jewelry Designs
Currently, the mainstay of my handmade jewelry designs is mixed media and assemblage creations, usually in a neutral color palette. (“Mixed media jewelry” is a creation made from two or more different materials such as brass, beads, rhinestones, etc.) Some of my creations feature repurposed vintage components and found treasures: I’ve designed necklaces using everything from old belt buckles to keys, chandelier prisms to drawer pulls, and everything in between. My current obsession is making bracelets from old sterling or silver plate napkin rings. And, I love to incorporate parts and pieces of vintage jewelry—especially rhinestones—into my handmade jewelry designs. Friends and family are always giving me plastic baggies filled with no-longer-loved or broken jewelry. Scouring garage sales and thrift shops seeking unusual treasures is one of my favorite past times.
Simple or statement? It depends upon my inspiration when I sit down at my work table: Sometimes I’ll create a simple piece such as an unadorned cuff bracelet crafted from a gorgeous sterling silver napkin ring. Other times I’m inspired to create something completely and totally bodacious. I create necklaces and bracelets that I love—and would wear myself.
